Each class, we meet at a particular monument or piazza and spend the following two and half hours walking down side streets, under churches, and through museums in order to see the art that we are discussing first hand., What better way to experience the art of Rome than on a weekly guided tour?!, The best part is that these tours ARE the class (and, for those of us trying to work off all the gelato we've been eating, a dependable weekly workout)., Professors, AKA Tour Guides and Top Chefs: Active Learning in Rome

Feet up, relaxing in my apartment in Palermo Hollywood after a long day of walking over 24,000 steps., During the day, you’ll find people tanning in the grass, reading a book in the shade, walking their dogs, and even working out., The bus stop for school is right in front of the plaza so I get the joy of walking under these big, stunning trees every day., It is a funny experience at first but then you get used to walking straight through them because right through the other side is a shopping mall called Galerias Pacífico., The beginning of Florida street which is a big tourist attraction.

You start walking down Calle Reyes Catolicas, the main road, toward the Alhambra (a huge castle and tourist attraction)., After walking just a few minutes on Calle Reyes Catolicas just past Plaza Nueva and the fountain of Isabel la Catolíca, you turn right on Cuesta de Gomerez., People are taking pictures underneath the arch before walking through., Instead you’re in a forest of ancient trees, walking up a steep hill., By the time you get back home, the familiar smell of olive oil and sweet potatoes is exactly what you need to complete your magical tour of an exciting place I get to call home for the next three months.

From the bus, walking is generally the next form of transportation to get around the city, however; there are bike racks located throughout the city where you can rent bikes for a day of roaming around., On the warmer days, a cone full of freshly made gelato can make for a nice treat while walking around., It is generally very touristy so you won’t get much interaction with the locals there, but it is always a good time and definitely worth a visit, if only to walk the narrow, cobblestone streets.

For me, this meant walking through the neighborhood of Malostranská and finding the beautiful rose gardens at the top of the hill., This area of the river is home to a huge group of swans and less frequented by tourists, making it a serene place to grab a cappuccino or read between classes, and an excellent opportunity for pictures., Even though it can get crowded as people of many backgrounds flock to Prague to see this famous landmark, I like walking across the bridge every so often because it is truly one of the most beautiful parts of the city., If a hands-on experience is more up your alley, I recommend touring the Strahov Monastery and Brewery.

After we set everything up, three other volunteers and I went out with a crate filled with croissants, teabags, and a large carafe of hot water to began walking the mostly deserted streets of Aix in the morning., These little brass markers dot the city, acting as a kind of cheerio trail for tourists to follow around and see many of Aix's biggest attractions as well as places marked by Paul Cezanne, the painter who serves as Aix-en-Provence's claim to fame., I took this very tour when I came to Aix a month ago, and now am walking along the same streets for a different purpose., Walking with my breakfast companions was such a cool experience because even though we more-or-less took random paths around the city, I could tell they knew these routes like the backs of their hands., Almost all of them have dogs — we met two men out walking theirs; one of them fed a few pieces of croissant to his puppy.
